At Energy Assault Solutions we want to save you money on more than just your energy and heating bills, so we thought we’d compile a few tricks you can use to save money on your monthly water bill. By using water-saving features you can reduce your in-home water use by 35%. This means the average household, which uses 130,000 gallons per year, could save 44,00 gallons of water per year.
The first thing you should do is check for leaks in your pipes, faucets, and couplings.
A leaky faucet that drips at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons per year. That doesn’t even MENTION the amount of water that can leak in the pipes surrounding your home. If your bill seems consistently a bit higher than usual, or if you’ve done outdoor digging or construction, it’s a good idea to get those pipes checked before you lose more of that precious H2O.
When you wash your car, STOP using the hose!
Instead of that hose, try and use a bucket of soapy water instead! Use the hose only for rinsing; this simple practice can save as much as 100 gallons when washing a car. Use a spray nozzle when rinsing for more efficient use of water.
Take up Recycling your Water
Recycling your water comes in many different forms, so it’s important to find out what works for you and the members of your household. Try collecting excess water from your shower and using it to water the plants, same with your dishwater. You can also use the cold water from when your shower is heating up to wash dishes. Get creative with it!
